LOS ANGELES : Woman Gets 15 Years to Life in Foster Son’s Death
- Share via
A woman was sentenced Tuesday to 15 years to life in prison for beating her 2-year-old foster son to death with a paddle and shoe.
Valerie Denise Walker, 29, a licensed foster parent, was convicted July 9 of child abuse and second-degree murder in the death of Robert Brown. The toddler’s body was covered with more than 100 bruises when he was pronounced dead Nov. 4, 1991, at Martin Luther King Jr./Drew Medical Center.
Superior Court Judge Michael Tynan denied Walker a new trial after ruling that allegations of juror misconduct made by her defense attorney were unfounded. “I have seen the photographs (of Robert’s body) and I don’t think I’ll be able to get them out of my mind,” Tynan said.
