Birmingham 21, Monroe 6--Paul Holt played running back in the first half and rushed for a touchdown. Then, in the second half, he played quarterback and passed for a touchdown to lead host Birmingham. Holt carried 16 times for 47 yards and completed three of four for 63 yards.
Birmingham (3-1, 2-0) was led by running back Larry Wilson, who gained 100 yards in 13 carries. Marvin Powell added four receptions for 86 yards and a touchdown. Kicker Tony Serpas had field goals of 28 and 27 yards.
Monroe (1-4, 0-2), which was plagued by six turnovers, scored on a nine-yard third-quarter pass from Arthur Gharzarian to Jeff Nadeau.
Gharzarian completed nine of 17 passes for 67 yards and a touchdown with an interception.
