The city of Ventura’s Art-in-Public-Places program is seeking proposals from area artists interested in designing artwork for sites near the Ventura County Fairgrounds and Arroyo Verde Park.
An $8,000 commission will be awarded to an individual to create artwork for the new Amtrak train platform near the fairgrounds. The artwork will be incorporated into the structure and surrounding landscape.
Proposals for the platform commission must be submitted by Nov. 20.
Artists are also encouraged to submit proposals for a $5,200 commission for a group barbecue area that will be constructed at Arroyo Verde Park. City officials are looking for artwork that is original and appropriate to the site’s use and the park’s natural environment.
The deadline for proposals for the Arroyo Verde Park project is Dec. 18.
A prospectus on the projects is available from the Art-in-Public-Places program and can be obtained by calling 654-7809 during normal business hours.
