HOUSE WATCH: Name recognition also may prove irrelevant in Maine, where Linda Lorraine Bean--granddaughter of the founder of the L.L. Bean mail-order firm--is trailing in her House bid. Bean, thought to be worth more than $7.6 million, is a conservative Republican whose views clash with freshman Rep. Thomas H. Andrews, a liberal Democrat. Bean has attacked Andrews for backing defense cuts that have hurt the state’s economy, but her outspoken style appears to have turned off many voters.
