SIMI VALLEY : D. A. Investigating Voter’s Complaint
- Share via
The Ventura County district attorney’s office opened an investigation Thursday after a Simi Valley man reported that he registered to vote in May but is not eligible to cast a ballot in the Nov. 3 election.
Jason Lenway, 19, said he has a receipt showing that he signed up to vote when someone handed him a registration form outside a Target store in Simi Valley.
But after he failed to receive a sample ballot, the county registrar of voters office determined that Lenway is not registered, county officials said.
Lenway said he will try to persuade a judge to allow him to vote Nov. 3. “I think my opinion on who should be President is important,” he said.
Special Assistant Dist. Atty. Don Coleman said his staff is trying to determine who registered Lenway and why the form was not filed with the county. Coleman said that if someone deliberately discarded Lenway’s form because of his party affiliation, “it might be a violation of the law.”
