PRO FOOTBALL DAILY REPORT : RAMS : Stewart’s Injury Makes Room for Lyght

Strong safety Michael Stewart, who broke a bone in his left forearm last Sunday, was officially placed on injured reserve and should miss four to six weeks.
The move freed up a roster spot for Thursday’s activation of cornerback Todd Lyght, who missed the past four games after dislocating his right shoulder.
Lyght practiced with the team for the first time since the injury Thursday, and said he felt no problems with the shoulder. The Rams, who don’t play until Nov. 1 in Atlanta because of the NFC West bye this weekend, did not wear pads in practice Thursday.
“He looked pretty good, moved well,” Coach Chuck Knox said. “Good that we have this time to kind of ease him back into it.”
Knox said he hadn’t decided if Lyght will immediately step back into his starting left cornerback spot, filled by Robert Bailey in Lyght’s absence, against Atlanta.
The Rams have used two of their five free injured-reserve list activations. Earlier this month, defensive lineman Robert Young was activated after an early-season shoulder injury.
The two roster moves leave the Rams with five cornerbacks and three safeties, and Knox said the team will take a look at a few free-agent safeties this week.
If the Rams don’t sign a safety for backup work, Knox has indicated a cornerback--possibly Sammy Lilly--could see time at safety on passing downs.
