Oscar Tickets: The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has dropped a lawsuit against three Los Angeles-area ticket brokers who offered the public scalped tickets to the posh Oscar ceremonies. Academy Executive Director Bruce Davis said Tuesday that “it comes down to a question of money. We have virtually eliminated the problem, and to continue taking depositions and take these guys to trial, for a dozen pairs of tickets, would not make economic sense.” Attorney Lawrence Siegal, who represented two of the brokers, said the move will allow Murray’s Tickets, Good Time Tickets and Al Brooks Theater Ticket Agency to continue selling tickets to the Oscars, but the brokers will not be permitted to solicit academy members for the tickets. Siegal said Murray’s and Good Time sold 24 tickets to this year’s ceremony at prices as high as $2,000.
