Secret Pay an Insult

The most galling, insulting, arrogant aspect brought to light regarding pay and “perks” of county officials was that the “the numbers were private.” That position was defended by the county attorneys (whose wages are also derived from public funds).
Further, it would appear that Auditor-Controller Norman Hawkes may not have a grasp of his job if he sloughs his paperwork to the extent quoted, “The county has no written documents other than pay stubs and W-2 forms detailing benefits paid to public officials.” Try that one on the IRS or another government agency empowered to examine your books.
