Three men who allegedly stole a 72-year-old man’s wallet, which contained $2,000, were arrested Tuesday after being chased and shot at by police.
The victim, Godfred Neilson of Huntington Beach, had just walked out of Huntington Savings & Loan, 6967 Warner Ave., about 1:45 p.m. when the robbery occurred, Police Beach Lt. Luis Ochoa said.
“The man had placed his wallet and papers on the front seat of his car, and the suspects distracted him by telling him something was wrong with the back end of his car,” Ochoa said.
Soon after Neilson reported the theft, police spotted a car matching the description of the thieves’ and chased it throughout a residential neighborhood near Edwards Street and McFadden Avenue.
Arrested were Juan Lopez, 34, Sebastion Cono, 37 and Ignacio Novoa, 34. All three are residents of Van Nuys, police said. Two others believed involved in the theft escaped.
