Mater Dei Friars? Mater Dei’s basketball coaches showed up dressed in their team jackets at last Thursday’s football game against Mission Viejo. The “new” attire caused more then a few raised eyebrows and drew a couple of less-than-kind comments.

Instead of red and gray, the school colors, Coach Gary McKnight and his assistants were wearing black jackets with white stripes on the shoulders. They could have easily passed for Servite jackets.

Detente? Hardly.

“I look better in black,” McKnight said.
