American Airlines Trims Management Jobs: The Ft. Worth, Tex.-based airline trimmed 576 management employees, a 6% cut that will yield a 10% annual savings in compensation, company officials said. The airline laid off 286 people, while 290 others resigned with severance incentives. In October, American had said up to 1,000 employees could be affected by the reduction, which will cut $40 million of $400 million in 1993 management payroll costs. The airline employs about 98,000 people, including about 9,600 managers.
