A.F. Cargo Jets Over Montana Collide, Crash

SEATTLE — Two military cargo planes collided Monday night over Montana and crashed, a Federal Aviation Administration duty officer said.
There was no immediate word on casualties but the four-engine jets typically carry five crew members.
The Air Force C-141s, based at McChord Air Force Base near Tacoma, Wash., collided near Chinook, in north-central Montana, Seattle FAA duty officer Lee Fryer said.
The collision reportedly occurred during a refueling operation that involved four C-141s and a tanker plane based at Fairchild Air Force Base near Spokane, Wash., Fryer said.
The crash site was about 30 miles south of the Canadian border.
The C-141, nicknamed the StarLifter, is one of the Air Force’s largest aircraft.
