CAPISTRANO VALLEY TOURNAMENT : Defense Helps Put Cougars in Final

MISSION VIEJO — Capistrano Valley’s defensive pressure keyed a 9-0 run early in the third quarter as the Cougars defeated Santa Margarita, 65-45, in the semifinals of the Coca-Cola/Converse tournament Friday night at Capistrano Valley High.
The Cougars (3-0) will meet Los Angeles Crenshaw in the championship game at 8 tonight at Capistrano Valley. Crenshaw advanced Thursday with a 79-68 victory over Long Beach Poly.
Corey Kost, who scored a game-high 19 points for Capistrano Valley, had four points during the third-quarter streak. Eric Seiffert, who had 12 points and six rebounds, hit a three-pointer during the run.
Santa Margarita (2-1) was led by Adam Dzierzynski with 11 points and six rebounds. Santa Margarita will play Long Beach Poly for third place at 6:30 tonight.
In a consolation game:
Los Alamitos 52, Savanna 42--Brady Doyle and Steve Carbone scored 14 points each for Los Alamitos (6-1).
