A pickup truck tumbled 200 feet down a cliff north of Castaic, killing a 33-year-old Lancaster man and injuring a woman passenger, also of Lancaster, authorities reported Monday.
Reno Zuliani was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident, which was discovered Monday about 7:15 a.m., California Highway Patrol Officer Wendy Moore said.
Maria Zuliani, 30, was taken by helicopter to Henry Mayo Newhall Memorial Hospital in Valencia. She was suffering from severe hypothermia and minor injuries, Los Angeles County Fire Inspector Dennis Vlach said. The CHP did not know the relationship of the car’s occupants.
Zuliani was driving east on Lake Hughes Road about two miles north of Castaic Lake when he lost control of the truck on a curve, Miller said. The pickup continued off the side of the remote road, overturning as it went, Miller said. Reno and Maria Zuliani were ejected, she said.
The accident, still under investigation, occurred Sunday night or early Monday morning, Miller said.
