Rebate for Renters

The Times’ position (editorial, “It Only Seems Like Peanuts,” Jan. 29) on the renters credit is correct--so far as it goes. But this issue is small potatoes compared to the real injustice renters endure.
Instead of allowing people in huge, luxurious homes do deduct substantial portions of their mortgage payments, why don’t we allow people renting cheap apartments to deduct the total amount of their rent? One should not be taxed for what one must spend just to survive.
