COMMUNITY COLLEGE BASEBALL ROUNDUP : Rancho Santiago Defeats S.D. City on Thobe’s Single

Steve Thobe hit a game-winning, bases-loaded single to left in the bottom of the ninth inning as host Rancho Santiago defeated San Diego City, 8-7, Saturday in the second round of the Rancho Santiago Lidlifter tournament.
S.D. City (0-2) rallied from a 7-0 deficit with five runs in the top of the ninth to tie it, 7-7, before winning pitcher Jason Hamner got the final three outs.
Ryan Andersen had a triple, a home run and three runs batted in for Rancho Santiago (2-0).
In the Cerritos Fullerton tournament:
Fullerton 9, Southwestern 6--Steve Friedrich had four hits, three runs scored and a home run for Fullerton (2-0). Mark Rushlow had two hits, including a home run, and two RBIs, and John Gardikis and Mickey Fortie each had two hits and two RBIs.
In the Palomar tournament:
Saddleback 3, Palomar 2--Steve Lee pitched five innings of three-hit relief, striking out nine, to earn the victory for Saddleback (2-0), which advanced to today’s championship game against the Palomar-Glendale winner. Craig Ainsworth recorded the final two outs to earn the save.
In the College of the Desert tournament:
Cypress 27, Grossmont 7--Ryan Hamilton had two home runs, six RBIs and five runs scored to lead Cypress’ 24-hit attack. Mark Selway had three hits and four RBIs and Wes Brasher had two doubles and three RBIs for Cypress (1-1). Grossmont is 0-2.
Orange Coast 10, San Bernardino 4--Justin Halper had two hits including a two-run single in the second to give the Pirates (1-1) a 7-2 lead.
