Bridgete Williams, a 5-foot-6 guard for Harbor College, scored a school-record 72 points Wednesday night in a 133-62 women’s basketball victory over Long Beach City College at Wilmington.
Williams, who attended Morningside High, made 32 of 52 shots, including seven of 12 from three-point range, and one of two free throws. She added eight rebounds, eight steals and five assists.
Williams’ previous high was 65 points, at Long Beach, on Jan. 15.
Williams is averaging 39.5 points per game, second in the state to Karleen Shields of Contra Costa, at 41.8.
There are no current records kept for state community college basketball, though the National JC Athletic Assn. record for points in a women’s game is 61 by Gina Oprondek of Morton College in Illinois and by Sherrie Kennie of Becker in Massachusetts. NJCAA records, however, do not include California schools.
