Bill Honig’s Conviction

In reply to Joseph Farah’s Column Right (Feb. 2) on Honig:

Does anyone else smell a “railroad” in the conviction of Honig on conflict-of-interest charges? Honig fought for better financing for California’s schools. He kept right-wing fundamentalist factions from, among other things, including the creationist theory in our state textbooks under the guise of science. He showed sincerity and integrity in all his actions through his professional life.

When my husband and I began teaching in Los Angeles in the 1950s, a husband and wife could not teach in the same department. That rule was discontinued when it was realized that a couple could work for the same goals without it being considered conflict of interest.

The Honigs did not embezzle funds; they did not pay themselves huge salaries! Mrs. Honig’s organization was nonprofit. It did its job! Doesn’t anyone else realize that this man was railroaded because he would not bow to spurious special interests?
