Bistline Joins Former Boss as Assistant at UC Irvine

Greg Bistline, who was UC Irvine Athletic Director Dan Guerrero’s right-hand man at Cal State Dominguez Hills, will join Guerrero at Irvine as associate athletic director for development and marketing, Guerrero announced Thursday.

Bistline, an associate athletic director at Dominguez Hills since 1989, has been acting athletic director at the university since December, when Guerrero left for Irvine.

The appointment fills the final associate athletic director position. Bistline joins Petrina Long, who was named associate athletic director for student services Wednesday. Bistline will be in charge of fund-raising, a crucial task as the department faces ongoing state budget problems.

“Greg has successfully demonstrated the ability to achieve, and exceed, fund-raising expectations at several institutions,” Guerrero said in a statement. “You will not find another individual who will work harder, or smarter, and be more committed to the mission of our intercollegiate athletics program than Greg.”

At Irvine, Bistline will oversee all athletic department fund-raising, including the annual fund drive, endowment solicitations, corporate sponsorships and other marketing and promotional efforts.

Bistline was assistant director of the Titan Athletic Foundation at Cal State Fullerton in 1988, and also has worked as assistant director of the St. Francis Medical Center Foundation and assistant athletic director for development at Loyola (Md.) College. He also was an assistant football coach at New Mexico and Indiana State.
