PREP ROUNDUP : Huntington Beach Wins in Shootout, Earns Playoff Berth

After playing to a 1-1 tie through 80 minutes of regulation and 20 minutes of overtime, Jared Tanaka scored the winning penalty kick for Huntington Beach, which edged Marina, 3-2, in a shootout to win the Sunset League boys’ soccer third-place playoff game Saturday at Fountain Valley High School.
With the victory, Huntington Beach (14-8-3) earned the league’s final playoff bid. Marina (16-6-5), ranked seventh in both the Orange County and Southern Section Division I polls, will miss the playoffs.
In the Sea View League girls’ basketball fourth-place playoff:
Tustin 48, Corona del Mar 40--Sarah Davis had 15 points to lead the Tillers (12-13), who clinched a playoff bid. Mollie Flint scored 28 points for Corona del Mar (14-10).
In South Coast League girls’ soccer:
El Toro 2, Mater Dei 0--El Toro (17-2-3, 7-1-2) clinched its fourth consecutive league championship. Mater Dei (13-7-5, 4-3-3), the defending Division 4-A champion, finished fourth in league and will miss the playoffs.
In the Tournament of Champions field hockey final:
Colton 2, Santiago 0--Cossette Varona had five saves for Santiago (21-2-2). Colton is 19-2-6.
In the Garden Grove League individual wrestling finals:
Three honored--Ahid Diab of Los Amigos earned most valuable wrestler honors for the lower weight classes, and Ben Espinosa of Santiago and Jake Harmon of Rancho Alamitos were named co-most valuable wrestlers of the upper weight classes.
