Countywide : Gallegly Returns Money to Treasury
- Share via
Rep. Elton Gallegly (R-Simi Valley) announced Tuesday he is returning about $180,000 in unspent office funds to the U.S. Treasury.
The money is left over from the more than half a million dollars allocated to Gallegly in 1992 to run his congressional offices in Washington and Ventura County. House members receive about $600,000 a year for staff salaries, travel, office rents and equipment.
Gallegly said he hoped to set an example of fiscal restraint for other members of Congress by returning the unspent dollars. He has returned nearly $400,000 in unspent office allocations since he was elected to represent Ventura County in 1986, Gallegly said.
