European Fish Crisis: The European Community’s executive commission said it will propose emergency measures in the coming days to avert a crisis in the EC’s fishing sector due to cheap imports and recent currency turmoil. “We’ll propose measures to improve the market situation,” a spokeswoman for the commission said after a meeting between French and EC officials in Brussels. Prices have plunged 15% to 30% across Europe, and cheap imports from Russia, Norway and Iceland, as well as currency fluctuations in the European Community, have aggravated troubles facing the fishing industry worldwide, she said.
