AFTER ABBOTT: After unpopular trades like that of pitcher Jim Abbott, the Angels hope to earn fan forgiveness with up-and-comers such as outfielder Tim Salmon. . . . And they’re counting on one old face. Chili Davis, above, who was an Angel for three seasons starting in 1988 and still is an Anaheim Hills resident, returns as designated hitter after two years in Minnesota. Davis, whose name is Charles Theodore, got the nickname Chili Bowl in the sixth grade after a memorable haircut. Bowl was dropped; Chili stuck.
