Image Entertainment Reports 3rd-Quarter Loss

Image Entertainment Inc., a Chatsworth supplier of movies and other programming on laser disc, reported an $876,000 fiscal third-quarter loss, compared with an $861,000 profit a year earlier.

The loss in the quarter ended Dec. 31 came on a 15% decline in Image’s sales, to $16.6 million from $19.5 million. Image said the declines reflected a “difficult year for the electronic entertainment industry,” and noted that its year-earlier results reflected Image’s release of the successful films “Fantasia” and “Dances With Wolves.”

Image lost $3.17 million for the first nine months of its fiscal year, against a year-earlier profit of $180,000, and its nine-month sales edged up 3%, to $43.3 million from $42.1 million.
