1993 PREP PREVIEW / BOYS SWIMMING : CORONA DEL MAR
- Share via
Coach: Mike Starkweather (11th year)
1992: First in Sea View League; fourth in Southern Section 4-A championship meet.
Key returners: Crosby Grant, Jr.; Wonkee Moon, Sr.
Key newcomers: Steve Hamilton, Jr.; Rob Hoover, Sr.; Andy McFarland, So.; Tom Norton, Sr.; James Palda, So; Adrian Strelzow, So.; Dan Todd, Sr.; Steve Yamamoto, Jr.
Outlook: Sure, the Sea Kings have only two key returners, but they could match last year’s performance. The fourth-place finish was their highest in five years. Grant finished fourth in the 100-yard freestyle and also set a school record in the 100 backstroke. Moon hopes to improve his performance in the 100 breaststroke at the Division I meet. He was league champion in that event last season. Hoover was a find. He moved from Washington recently and is strong in the 200 individual medley, 100 freestyle and 100 breaststroke. A lot will depend on the newcomers, many of whom had strong showings on lower levels last season. “A lot of tangents have to fall into place, but I think we can be as good as last season,” Starkweather said.
