The Los Angeles City Council has approved a proposal to study costs and program needs to convert a Highland Park historic mansion into a child-care center, according to an announcement from Councilman Mike Hernandez’s office.
The city is appropriating $70,000 to prepare a design, environmental studies, preliminary landscape plans and a construction costs application for the Ziegler House at 4601 N. Figueroa St.
According to Hernandez’s office, the cost of renovating the house is estimated to be at least $950,000, not including installing parking, hazardous materials removal and special costs associated with historic preservation.
