FDA Discusses Approval of Abortion Pill: The Food and Drug Administration is working with France’s Roussel-Uclaf on plans to license and manufacture the controversial RU-486 abortion pill in the United States, an agency spokesman said. Company officials met with FDA Commissioner David Kessler this week and said they were interested in selling the product in the United States. Roussel-Uclaf made it clear it did not want to manufacture the drug but discussed alternative approaches such as a joint venture with a U.S. drug firm, research center or university, the FDA said.
