Joshua Cox; Boy Was Inauguration Guest of Tipper Gore

Joshua Cox, 12, the disabled boy who attended the presidential inauguration ceremonies as a guest of Tipper Gore. Joshua suffered from a severe form of mental retardation and cerebral palsy caused by a lack of oxygen at birth. He could not walk or talk, and could hear only with hearing aids. The vice president’s wife visited Joshua in the hospital during a campaign stop last summer. Joshua, with his family, accepted an invitation to the inaugural ceremonies in Washington as one of 50 Faces of Hope. On Feb. 20 in Sandusky, Ohio, of the complications of pneumonia.
