Morningside Takes Big Lead Early, Rolls to Defeat Cypress, 70-38

CYPRESS — Despite 17 points from junior forward Jessica Eggleston, Inglewood Morningside easily defeated Cypress, 70-38, in a Division III-AA girls’ playoff game Saturday at Cypress High.
The Centurions end the season with a 17-9 record.
Morningside (23-2) was led by forward Tina Thompson. Thompson, who will attend USC next year, was the game’s leading scorer with 20 points. Morningside’s other forward, Cha-Ron Walker, added 15 points.
For Cypress, freshman guard Jeni Shiraki scored 10 points.
The game became lopsided early, as Morningside outscored the Centurions, 21-9, in the first quarter. The Monarchs finished off the Centurions by outscoring them, 34-19, in the second half.
