Debbie Wilson pitched three innings to earn the victory and her sister Carolyn doubled in the only two runs for Los Alamitos to give the Griffins a 2-1 victory over Mater Dei in the championship game of the Cypress softball tournament Saturday at Cypress Park.
With one out and the bases loaded in the second inning, Patty Godwin scored on first baseman Marie O’Beck’s squeeze bunt for Mater Dei (6-1).
The Griffins (8-0) scored in the third inning as Becky Rosetti and Michelle Schneider scored on Wilson’s double to left field.
In the bottom of the fourth, Mater Dei loaded the bases with no outs against Los Alamitos pitcher Sheri Bergeron.
Los Alamitos Coach Jamie Shannon brought Debbie Wilson in to pitch, and she forced Mater Dei’s Candace Kollen to hit a ground ball to the shortstop Schneider, who threw to Carolyn Wilson at home to tag out Katie Ward at the plate.
Lisa Tulley then popped out to second, and Debbie Wilson caught Bernadette Vargas’ line drive to end the threat.
Mater Dei pitcher Jennifer Clark struck out 11 and walked two.
