In the Division III boys’ championship:
Morningside 91, South Torrance 82--The Monarchs used a 9-2 surge in the final 33 seconds to outlast South Torrance at the Sports Arena.
There were 47 fouls called during the game, four players fouled out and four others had four fouls.
“When the (final) buzzer sounded, we were relieved to accomplish this goal,” said Dominic Ellison, who made 11 of 15 shots and scored 31 points for Morningside.
Morningside (29-5) will try to win a second consecutive State Division III title next Saturday at the Oakland Coliseum Arena against Northern Regional champion Palo Alto (31-0), which scored an 81-68 victory Saturday over Fair Oaks San Juan (31-3).
