NATION IN BRIEF : LOUISIANA : Tulane Seeks Control Over Scholarships

The president of Tulane University, caught in a scandal over scholarships doled out by elected officials, demanded that the school be put in charge of the free rides. Tulane will not accept any scholarships granted after this academic year unless the school gets control, President Eamon Kelly said. Tulane’s board approved guidelines for the scholarships to be based only on academic excellence and financial need. Many scholarships have gone to the children of politicians.
