Hubert-Whitten Out of ‘Prince’

Janet Hubert-Whitten, who plays the mother in “The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air,” said Wednesday that she would not return to the show this fall because NBC tried to cut her salary nearly in half.

Hubert-Whitten, who had a child in real life and on the show this past season, said that NBC offered her only 13 episodes of work compared with last season’s 22 and refused her request to make up the difference with a per-episode increase. She said that the network, which produces the show in conjunction with the Stuffed Dog Co. and Quincy Jones Entertainment, offered her the same per-episode rate, reportedly about $15,000 per show. “I admit to having some hormonal difficulties as every pregnant woman would this past season, but I never held up the show,” said Hubert-Whitten, who gave birth to her first child last February, prompting her to miss two episodes.

NBC executives could not immediately be reached for comment.
