BellSouth Proposes Outside Access to Its Advanced Network: Atlanta-based BellSouth Corp. said it would like to give other companies access to a level of its network to develop new communications products. If approved by the Federal Communications Commission, BellSouth would be the first of the regional Bell operating companies to provide such access, the company said. Under the plan, others could use BellSouth’s Advanced Intelligent Network as a launching point for such services as voice recognition and so-called personalized telephone numbers, which follow individuals wherever they go. The company said it might create more competition for itself but that research showed that new products developed by others could increase its revenue.
