Three carjackers confronted a Studio City couple on a date, briefly kidnaped both and then forced the man to drive to an automatic teller machine and withdraw money, police said Monday.
No one was hurt in the 1 a.m. incident that began as a 22-year-old man was dropping off his date, a 20-year-old woman, at her apartment building in the 4100 block of Elmer Avenue, said Lt. Ron LaRue.
Three men pulled up in a Chrysler New Yorker, which had been stolen in an earlier carjacking-robbery in Torrance, and confronted the pair at gunpoint, forcing them into their car. Two of the suspects drove with them while the third followed in the Chrysler, police said.
After driving for a few blocks the woman was left behind unharmed and the Chrysler was abandoned. The three robbers forced the remaining victim to drive his car to a First Interstate Bank branch in Hollywood, where he was ordered to withdraw $240 from the ATM, police said.
Afterward, the robbers left the man at Sunset Boulevard and Vine Street and drove off in his blue, 1987 Toyota Celica. No arrests were made and the car had not been located by Monday evening.
