NAPA, Calif. — A jury Monday recommended the death penalty for a 22-year-old man convicted of murdering three students and a teacher at his former high school.
Eric Houston was convicted last month of fatally shooting three Lindhurst High School students and civics teacher Robert Brens, who had prevented Houston from graduating by giving him a failing grade in 1989.
Houston also held 85 students hostage for 8 1/2 hours last year before surrendering in Olivehurst, 40 miles north of Sacramento. Jurors also convicted him of 10 counts of attempted murder.
