A 27-year-old Anaheim woman was fatally hurt about 6:30 a.m. Monday when she lost control of her car and struck a light pole while driving along Trask Avenue, police said.
Shelly Lee Sparlin was alone, traveling west on Trask just east of Jackson Street, when she lost control of her 1982 Ford station wagon for an unknown reason, Police Lt. Bill Lewis said.
Sparlin was trapped and had to be cut out of the vehicle before being flown by helicopter to UCI Medical Center in Orange, Lewis said. She died at the hospital shortly after noon, a coroner’s office spokeswoman said.
Sparlin was not wearing a seat belt, Lewis said. Police could not estimate how fast she was traveling when she lost control.
“There weren’t many people out at that time of the morning who saw the accident,” Lewis said. “But the impact was significant.”
