Responsibility

* A common refrain these days among gun owners, school teachers and movie/television executives is “It’s the parents’ responsibility.” This of course is true. Parents are failing to take full responsibility, so society must. America has a long tradition of protecting its citizens from those who cannot or will not be accountable. If business and industry leaders were truly responsible, there would be no FDA, OSHA, NLRB, FTC, FDIC, LAPD, FAA, EPA, or a hundred other agencies that protect all of us from the irresponsible. Should we abandon these agencies simply because food, drug, airline, and workplace safety is management’s responsibility? I think not. Parents, love your children; America protect your children.
