COLLEGE BASKETBALL : Marquette Uses Balanced Attack in 74-65 Upset of No. 16 Illinois

Robb Logterman made five three-point shots and Tony Miller became Marquette’s career assist leader as the Warriors pulled away in the second half to defeat 16th-ranked Illinois, 74-65, at Milwaukee on Tuesday night.
The Warriors (4-2) bounced back from a home loss to Wisconsin Green Bay, getting 18 points each from Logterman and Damon Key.
Miller, a junior who scored all 10 of his points in the second half, had 14 assists and passed Lloyd Walton on the school’s all-time list. Walton had 480 assists from 1974-76.
Illinois (2-1) got 14 points from Deon Thomas.
No. 12 Indiana 101, Notre Dame 82--Alan Henderson scored 21 points, Brian Evans scored 19 and Indiana tied an Assembly Hall record for free-throw attempts at Bloomington, Ind. The Hoosiers (2-1), who made 37 of 53 free throws, extended the nation’s longest home winning streak to 32 games. Notre Dame is 2-2.

Addul Abdullah scored on a driving layup with two seconds to play to give Providence (3-2, 1-1) a Big East Conference victory over Villanova (2-1, 1-1) at Villanova, Pa. . . . George Butler scored 23 points to help Georgetown (3-2, 1-1) to a 61-47 Big East victory over Miami (3-1, 0-1) at Miami. . . . Pittsburgh (4-0, 2-0) held off a last-minute rally in recording a 75-68 Big East victory over St. John’s (2-2, 1-1) at New York. . . . Georgia (3-1) scored the first 14 points in a 115-58 rout of Bethune-Cookman (0-4) at Athens, Ga.
