Irvine Valley, So.
Soccer / Forward
Pace came into last weekend’s State tournament looking for a second chance. He had been a member of Irvine Valley’s 1991 team that reached the championship game but lost to Orange Coast. This time, Pace was determined to leave the tournament as a champion. He did his best, scoring two goals as the Lasers beat Ohlone, 4-1, in the semifinal round. He scored once to help the Lasers defeat previously unbeaten Santa Barbara, 2-0, in the title game. He was selected most valuable player of the tournament.
Other notables:
* Jeff Clayton rushed for a career-high 240 yards as Orange Coast beat Antelope Valley, 26-14, in the Simple Green Orange County Bowl.
