The Academy Foundation, the educational and cultural arm of the Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences, awarded $85,000 in grants, the largest sum ever given by the foundation, according to Academy Grants Committee Chair Janet MacLachlan.
The grants, ranging from two $10,000 grants given to the Columbia University School of the Arts and the North Carolina School of the Arts Winston-Salem to three grants of $4,000 to fund various conferences and magazine supplements, were targeted toward women and film.
Eight of the 16 funded projects are from the targeted proposals.
