Guerrillas Blow Up Banks, Office; 7 Hurt

LIMA, Peru — Leftist guerrillas blew up four banks and a government office, wounding at least seven people, police said Friday.
The attacks follow President Alberto Fujimori’s signing of a constitution Wednesday that includes the death penalty for rebel leaders. The new charter, which was approved in an October referendum, took effect Friday.
The Sendero Luminoso (Shining Path) rebels dynamited four banks around Lima late Thursday and a state telephone company office early Friday, police said. At least seven people were hospitalized with cuts from flying glass.
The rebels also set off a bomb that wounded one person Wednesday, a day after three bombs killed one person and wounded 30.
