Liebhold to Fill Technology Post at Times Mirror

Michael Liebhold, formerly a scientist for Apple Computer Inc., has been named to the new post of vice president of technology at Times Mirror Co., The Times’ parent company announced Thursday.
Liebhold, 49, will be responsible for guiding Times Mirror’s efforts to apply new technologies to a broad variety of its businesses. He will also advise the company on acquisitions and strategic alliances and will represent Times Mirror on various technology issues.
He will report to Efrem Zimbalist III, vice president for strategic development.
At Apple, Liebhold was a senior scientist in media architectures research. His team made fundamental contributions to the development of Quicktime, Apple’s media software architecture for the Macintosh, Windows and Unix operating systems.
