Robert C. Embry, a longtime professor of business at Cal Lutheran University in Thousand Oaks and a former chairman of Ventura County’s Civil Service Commission, died Thursday after a long battle with lung cancer. He was 58.
As head of the Civil Service Commission, Embry oversaw the administration of the county employee civil service merit system. He was appointed to the commission in December, 1986, and served until May, 1993, when he stepped down due to his illness.
Embry’s wife, Donna, said he particularly enjoyed teaching. He taught several business courses at Cal Lutheran, and had previously worked 26 years as a teacher and administrator in the Simi Valley Unified School District.
Embry, a Thousand Oaks resident, was a family man who was deeply involved in community activities, Donna Embry said.
He is survived by his wife of 32 years, sons Kenneth and Michael, and a granddaughter.
Arrangements are being handled by Pierce Brothers Griffin Mortuary, Thousand Oaks.
