Monterey Park: Cost of Contractor Selection
- Share via
A few weeks ago, I read a letter to the editor regarding the use of the renovated El Encanto facility in the city of Monterey Park. The criticism of the possible uses was one thing, but I know some of the facts were missing. When the selection of the contractor first came before the City Council, it was Councilman Fred Balderrama who exposed the contractor’s poor performance record and protested their “D”-rated bond.
A few months later, the contractor failed to do his job and now it is costing the taxpayers an additional $200,000. This thanks to Councilman Sam Kiang, who made the motion to grant the contract to the less-qualified contractor.
