* * * Abbey Lincoln and Hank Jones, “When There Is Love,” Verve. Two of jazz’s most distinct voices come together in this relaxed program that shows both off to advantage. Lincoln’s voice, somewhat huskier than in years past, still retains its attractive depth and color, spicy on “C’est Si Bon,” warm and intimate on her own “A Part of Me.” Her struggle to find pitch on “I Should Care” makes her delivery even more poignant. Pianist Jones, working alone on “Close Your Eyes,” proves himself an astute spokesmen, juggling rhythms and soloing in almost conversational tones. “Angel Face,” with words by Lincoln and music by Jones, is especially heavenly.
