Phebus, Ampuero, Alipaz Advance

Keri Phebus and Cecelia Ampuero of Newport Beach joined Lisa Alipaz of Anaheim Hills to advance Friday to the qualifying round of the Toshiba Tennis Classic at the Rancho San Clemente Tennis and Fitness Club.
The second-seeded Phebus defeated seventh-seeded Susan Starrett of Los Angeles, 6-0, 6-2. Ampuero, who was unseeded, ousted fourth-seeded Danielle Scott of Newport Beach, 7-5, 2-6, 7-5. Alipaz defeated Ella Perkin of Poway, 6-3, 6-2.
Third-seeded Rita Maria Pichardo of Cuba had trouble with Heather Ludloff of San Rafael, winning, 4-6, 6-4, 6-4.
The qualifying tournament is scheduled to begin July 30 at the La Costa Resort and Spa.
