Wilson Signs With Swedish Basketball Team

Sara Wilson, a former Hart High basketball standout, has signed a contract with Bro Basket in Orebro, Sweden.
Wilson, a four-year starter at the University of Oregon and an All-Pacific 10 selection, led Hart to Southern Section titles in 1989 and 1990.
Bro Basket is one of 14 teams in Sweden’s Division I professional league and finished third in the Swedish playoffs last year.
Wilson, a 6-foot-3 center, will report to the team Thursday.

Gerald Madkins of the Cleveland Cavaliers is the scheduled guest speaker at the ProTech basketball camp Aug. 22-26 at Burbank High.
Daily sessions, open to boys between the ages of 11 and 17, run from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Karate
Paris Blumenthal won the Amateur Athletic Union USA Karate Championship in Villa Park, Ill., last month. Blumenthal, a fifth-degree black belt in Okinawan Matsubayai Shorin-Ryu karate, defeated three-time national champion Al Doorlag.
Softball
Quartz Hill’s bid to reach the Senior Girls Softball World Series fell one game short when it suffered consecutive losses to Pinole, Calif.
Quartz Hill made it to the championship game of the double-elimination tournament without a defeat. But Pinole swept a doubleheader from Quartz Hill, 3-1 and 6-1, to advance to Kalamazoo, Mich. Vicki McKay, a freshman pitcher from Paraclete High, threw two no-hitters in tournament games.
Motor Sports
Positions are still available for Friday night’s Ventura County Fair destruction derby. There is an entry fee of $50 and each member of the crew is required to purchase a $15 pit pass.
