WENATCHEE, Wash. — A sports utility vehicle crossed the center line, slammed head-on into a sedan packed with passengers and burst into flames, killing all 11 people in both vehicles, police said Monday.
The dead included five children, ages 2 to 6, who were among the nine people in the car.
The accident occurred Sunday evening when the southbound Chevy Blazer collided with the northbound Chevrolet Caprice, Lt. Bob Dale of the state patrol said.
The Blazer’s fuel line apparently ruptured, and all the victims were severely burned in the ensuing fire, Dale said.
No one reported witnessing the accident on Alternate U.S. 97 about two miles north of this central Washington city, and it was not known how fast the vehicles were traveling, police said.
The weather was clear and dry at the time of the crash.
