A donation to the Garvey School District by the Multi-Cultural Community Assn. of the San Gabriel Valley will be used to expand the school district’s conflict resolution program.
Monterey Park Mayor Judy Chu, association co-chairwoman Marina Tse and Wes Tanaka, a representative of Southern California Edison, handed over a $3,000 check to the Garvey Board of Education on Tuesday night. The district operates schools in Rosemead, Monterey Park and San Gabriel.
The association received a $10,000 grant from Edison in June, 1993, to initiate conflict resolution programs in Alhambra schools. A third of the grant was previously donated to the Alhambra School District, which used the funds to help start a conflict resolution program last fall at Mark Keppel High School.
Garvey has had conflict resolution and self-esteem building programs in place for students for the past four years.
